Dr. Mel Sharafuddin graduated at the American University of Beirut- School of Medicine in 1988. He was an Intern for Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa. He then did his residency from 1991 to 1995 at the St. Louis University Health Sciences Center in Missouri. After which he became a Fellow for Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology at the University of Minnesota Hospital & Clinic.
He is currently a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa. He is also a Staff Surgeon for the Veterans Administration Medical Center and Director of Endovascular Surgery Service at Carver College of Medicine.
