Antonio Pinna, MD, is a Transplant Surgeon in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Digestive Disease.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr Pinna served as Chief of the General Surgery Division and Transplantation at Sant’Orsola Hospital, Bologna, part of the University of Bologna in Italy, a position he held for 14 years. He was also Professor of Surgery and Director of the Liver and Multiorgan Transplant Division at the University of Modena in Italy and Associate Professor of Surgery in the Transplant Division at the University of Miami in the USA.
Dr Pinna graduated from the Sapienza University of Rome in Italy and completed his Residency there before pursuing sub-specialty fellowship training in Organ Transplantation at the Thomas E. Starzl Transplant Institute at the University of Pittsburgh, USA.
Dr Pinna has personally performed more than 1,200 liver transplants which include deceased donor transplants and living related adult to adult liver transplants. He has also personally conducted more than 100 kidney transplants and 120 intestinal transplants.
Dr Pinna is a member of the Italian Surgical Society, the International Liver Transplant Society, the Transplantation Society, the Intestinal Transplant Association, the American Surgical Transplant Society, the European Society of Organ Transplantation and the European Liver and Intestine Transplant Association and the European Surgical Association.
He has reviewed the Liver Transplantation journal, the Transplantation journal, the Clinical Transplantation journal and the American Journal of Transplantation and he is currently in the Editorial Board of Annals of Surgery.
