Prof. Kelvin Hong is an Interventional Radiologist and specialist in Liver cancer, sought after for expertise in liver directed treatments including locoregional therapies using thermal, chemo based and radiation-based local treatment to maximize of liver treatments and other diseases related to the liver, bile ducts and gallbladder. Prof Hong is currently the head and division chief of Vascular & Interventional Radiology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and University, Baltimore MD USA, and director of the Interventional Radiology services throughout the Johns Hopkins Health system. He is also the program director of the IR Residency, and has several national and international leadership roles in the certification and training of Interventional Radiologists. Prof Hong earned his medical degree from South Africa’s University of Witwatersrand Medical School. He completed his formal Radiology training, including his Residency and IR fellowship training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and has remained on faculty since 2004. Dr. Hong has a large clinical practice of Interventional Oncology patients, who performs minimally invasive procedures that include thermal ablation (RFA, microwave), chemoembolization and Y90 radioembolization and other liver focused procedures including trans hepatic endoscopic diagnosis and treatment. His research interest is also focused the outcomes of minimally invasive cancer treatments and new novel techniques, including the impact of local and systemic treatment combinations. Prof Hong served as main editor for the book Percutaneous Tumor Ablation and contributed to Interventional Oncology: Principles and Practice.
