Wael Darwish is an Interventional Radiologist and VIR Fellowship Program Director, NCI, at Cairo University, Co-director of EBIR, Ministry of Health, Egypt, and Board Member DAAK.
Dr. Darwish, graduated from Cairo University, School of Medicine in 1998, and finished his internship at the Cairo University Hospitals before starting his radiology residency at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Cairo University 2000-2003 finishing his Master’s in Radiology in 2004.
Dr. Darwish worked in the Vascular & Interventional Radiology and Image Guided Medicine Division in NCI after residency till 2008. Hereafter he worked as a Research Fellow of Vascular & Interventional Radiology at the University of Rochester in New York, USA, till 2009, then as a VIR Research Associate in University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, USA. In Mid 2010 he was appointed as a VIR clinical fellow in Emory University, ATL, USA.
He have had several oral and poster presentations in the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), USA, and several peer review articles in Journal of Vascular & Interventional Radiology, and other journals, mainly in the field of liver transplant complications, portal hypertension, TIPS, BRTO, liver malignancies, Breast, pancreatic malignancies and dialysis management plus few International multi-center trials.
After Dr. Darwish returned to Egypt, he has helped in the renovation and expansion of the VIR division, and clinic in NCI Cairo University, as well as helping in starting the Egyptian Board of Interventional Radiology for the Egyptian VIR fellowship. He is also continuing his collaborative work with SIR, USA & DAAK, Germany.
